Great smart car we rented from Girassol.Nearly new, clean and all that's needed(meaning the power of a smart car) for Madeira. Trust me, you need a small car on the tiny roads of the villages and an automatic of course. I have to be honest, choosing the cheapest company is not what I normally do as they tend to be cheap for a reason.However Girassol have been absolutely brilliant, which to be honest, is quite rare with car rental companies in general from my experience.From the ease of booking with Vlad and Alberto on hand to sort anything out, they really have been a great company and would use them again.If you have any issues, they respond on What’s app quickly.The car was a Seat Ibiza, Auto and was presented cleaned and with a full tank.Now tips for UK drivers coming to Madeira and driving for the first time.Locals: They know the roads, you don’t.Don’t hog the fast lane as they will not just be up your backside on the main roads, they will be so close, you won’t see their headlights.They tend to be BMW, Audi and have crap spoilers on their cars, or lowered.Roundabouts: They’re different to the UK.Unless you’re taking the first turn off, don’t stay in the outside lane.Soon as you enter the roundabout, go to the inside and they filter off on your turn. It sounds odd, but is better than the UK system.Slips Road: or more so lack of the slip road.Don’t think every slip road joining a A-road type will have one. Some times they are just like a giveaway junction and it’s weird.Sat Nav: Your Sat Nat will do it’s best to torture you and send you up 30-40 degree village passes where you will learn the width of your car quickly and what a drop off verge looks like.Stay on ER roads, they may be a little longer but easier.Finally, use Girassol as they offer Auto’s only.Truest me, a manual clutch here is pointless unless you just love hill starts and burning clutches out.
At the turn of January and February we had the pleasure of using the rental company's services. We picked up a clean Seat Ibiza which, due to its automatic transmission; small size and sufficient power, it is perfect for exploring Madeira. The car is fresh, has 17k kilometers and has performed flawlessly. Contact with the rental company is hassle-free. Full insurance, no deposit. Based on good reputation we chose this company to hire a car for our 10 days trip to Madeira. Metalic SEAT Arona with automatic gear was a perfect choice - was delivered to the airport on time, almost brand-new, nearly 15 000 km.We were a bit surprised how 1,0 TSi turbo could easily handle such a steep roads in Madeira, it was pretty enough and we had no issues.Communication with company was very effective, firstly we booked online putting security deposit to reserve the vehicle, then we discussed some further little questions via WhatsApp. Manager was on the phone and she replied to all our questions within a few hours.Definitely 5 stars and I could really recommend this company without hesitation. With Girassol we had the most pleasant car rental experience so far. Upon landing in Madeira, even though it was around midnight, we were met by a company employee who escorted us to the parking lot to the car. All the forms were filled in, the car in perfect condition (equipped with child seat as per our request). The whole pick-up process took less than 10 min. When handing over the car things went even smoother. We parked thecar at "departures" and by the time we unloaded the luggage the company employee came to retrieve the car. We had a Seat Ibiza, automatic gearbox, perfect for Madeirei's narrow and sloping streets. As someone who has rented many vehicles over the years, I'm happy to say this experience was nothing short of delightful. Having looked at various options in Madeira, I took a chance on this one based on other reviews I'd found and popped in to the office in Canico. I was warmly greeted by a very helpful and courteous lady, who went through the options available. I collected the car the next day, an immaculately presented Seat Ibiza, which served me perfectly for the next three days. The car came full of fuel, and I simply had to return it filled to the same level, which was easily done at the local Repsol garage where the staff (like most on Madeira), spoke perfect English. The return process was simple, honest and friendly, taking only 2 minutes to check the car over. I will definitely use this company again in future visits to the island. Advisable to pre-book as undoubtedly a company with this profile will be in demand, but always worth dropping in in person even if (as was the case for me) the website suggested nothing was available. The staff have more ability to "fine tune" things to meet your needs if you're able to be a little flexible.

Renting the Renault Clio was incredibly simple and hassle-free, offering excellent value for money.I visited their branch with my driver’s license and ID card, and the friendly staff quickly found me a Renault Clio. The paperwork was handled efficiently and without unnecessary bureaucracy. Plus, I received a 20% discount due to the Black Friday week.The car was ready for pickup at 9:00 AM the following day. The Clio was clean, fully fueled, and in perfect condition. Minor scratches on the sills and fenders were documented with photos during the handover. The Clio came well-equipped with air conditioning and navigation. Despite being an automatic, it performed quite nimbly.Returning the car was just as smooth as picking it up. At the branch, I returned the car fully fueled, completed a joint inspection, and handed back the keys.Truly recommendable!Raoul Strutz

Great place to rent a car. We went there becasue they had the best reviews in comparison to other rent-a-car places nearby. We wanted to rent a Nissan Micra but when we tried to turn it on it didn’t start. So Olga and her colleague rented us bigger car (Seat Arona) with no added expenses. Both ladies were really helpful. Olga was nice and gave us few tips where to go on our trip. She also answered all our questions about the island and parking spots.The car was clean and new, it had only 5200km mileage.We decided to get full insurance (it was 15€/day) instead of leaving a deposit, so when gave the car back Olga just checked if the tank was full so it took us about 5 minutes.In conclusion we would for sure recommend this place for renting a car.

We received an almost new, clean, well-kept and fully functional car (Renault Clio). A car with an Android system, which is great (google maps and your own music on the route). The automatic transmission is also a big plus. Thanks to it, you can efficiently and comfortably overcome the winding and steep roads of Madeira and enjoy the views instead of constantly swinging the gear lever. I recommend this rental company!

How did e.g. asked if we could return the car a little later and that was possible until 8 p.m. without any further fees. We always received an immediate response to our emails. Greeting! I thought others might be interested in my Madeira rental experience. First of all, a cheap car is not always a good choice. He brought it to us in such a way that we didn't have the basic cars left, but in the end we didn't mind at all. Full insurance is not provided in very few places, even though they say it is, but there is no damage to the glass (a pebble can hit the windshield at any moment), the cheaply rented car will be very expensive. At Girassol, we rented a small diesel BMW and it may suddenly seem expensive, but it is sold with comprehensive actual insurance. On these roads, small gasoline cars are weak and consume much more if we want to approach mountain tours.I recommend this rental company, we have visited all of them in the area. For a two-day trip across the beautiful island of Madeira, we looked for inexpensive car rental companies in our hotel and in the surrounding area. This is where I came across the Girassol car rental company. The website is also available in German and so I texted the number via WhatsApp, as offered on the website. I received an answer within a few minutes and two offers have already been sent to me via WhatsApp. I then reserved a rental car for the next day on the same day and paid for it straight away. Unfortunately, due to my last-minute decision, there was “only” a Seat Arona available, which would actually have been too big for me and my girlfriend. However, as a last resort, we took advantage of this offer and picked it up the next day. The vehicle was in new condition due to the 2600 km it had on the clock at the time. No scratches, no dents and no stains on the interior. All vehicles from this car rental company are automatic transmissions, including this one. This paid off after just a few hundred meters through the steep streets of this island. The car was easy to maneuver on the narrow roads and the average consumption was around 8 liters per 100 km. Despite the island's extreme topography, this is very low consumption. After the rental period, I brought the car back with around 350 km more and the rental lady looked at the car again. Explaining the contract, signing it and returning the vehicle only took around 10-15 minutes. All the employees I spoke to spoke good English and some also good German. All in all, I had a quick transaction, a top vehicle, top employees and no hidden costs. If I go on holiday to Madeira again, I will get a rental car from Girassol again.

We rented a car in Caniço from Girassol for ten days. We had very friendly, German-speaking email contact beforehand. All questions were clarified in advance. And we got the car delivered to the hotel and it was picked up again. The car was almost new, very well maintained and clean, and took us safely across the island of Madeira without any problems. Unfortunately it was not possible to book the rental car via the website, so we contacted us via WhatsApp and received a prompt response. The reservation was made manually for us and we quickly received confirmation by email.Everything went smoothly and the car was in good condition, cleaned and filled with fuel. The return also went absolutely smoothly. We would book a rental car here again at any time.
The car was perfect for our vacation in Madeira. We were brought directly to the hotel and picked up again there. Girassol is the perfect company to rent a car from while visiting Madeira. The car was dropped off at our hotel by Luisa, who was very kind, patient and helpful. The car was so clean that, before we saw the mileage, we honestly thought it was brand new 🙂 Communication went mainly through WhatsApp, which was very fast and convenient. When we couldn’t figure out how to get the phone navigation on the screen, they replied within 1 minute and guided us through it until we got it working. They were also very flexible when we asked if we could extend our rental period with 2 more days and when we had to change the pick up location that we agreed on beforehand. The new contract and payment for this extension were arranged within a couple of hours, which gave us a lot of peace of mind. We will definitely rent a car from Girassol again when we go back to Madeira ???

Very easy car rental experience. We picked based on the other positive reviews and we're glad we did. It was just a few minutes walk from the Riu Madeira and much more cost effective than booking through the hotel.
Very good service, good advice and friendly staff. Rent cars with automatic transmission, which is definitely an advantage in the mountainous terrain. We had a Seat Ibiza and were really well served with it. Very clean. Previous damage was assessed together, including upon delivery. You get the car with a full tank and return it with a full tank. There is no mileage limit. There are definitely cheaper offers, but we were so satisfied that we would rent a car there again at any time.

Highly recommended car hire company. We wanted a car at short notice and Girassol communicated immediately via out of hours WhatsApp chat and arranged drop off and pick up from our hotel for the next day. The Micra was a clean, low mileage automatic which carried 4 adults comfortably and sufficiently powered to cope with the Maderian hills. The fee was fully inclusive of insurance and no deposit required. The staff were lovely and a delight to deal with.
Girassol is a great service for renting a car during your vacation. I rented Smart for four, with full insurance and the place where I picked up the car was the airport, it’s convenient, I recommend it. Always take full insurance, in our case someone scratched the mirror while the car was in the parking lot. This did not cause any inconvenience, the company sorts everything out itself, and you just enjoy your vacation.
We rented the Seat Arona automatic with 115 hp for seven days. The car was brought to the hotel on time. The Seat was in very good condition, only had about 13,ooo km,We drove around 600 km in seven days.We can definitely recommend GIRASSOL - Rent a car, the service and the rental car are top notch.
