Last Thursday, the World Sport Fishing Championship began, an event in which fishermen from Madeira participate every year. This is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world of fishing, where the winner is the one who catches the largest blue marlin weighing over 500 pounds (227 kg).

Congratulations to the team led by Mark Milner and Stuart Simpson aboard the Dogs Bollocks, who clinched victory with a 393-kilogram specimen caught in the waters off Cape Verde.

As for the “small” Blue Marlin weighing about 252 kg, caught by the crew of the vessel “Sorted” at Calheta Marina in Madeira, it did not claim the million dollar prize. The marlin was graciously donated to local institutions.
