We had an exceptional experience with this small car rental company. Communication was immediate and extremely clear from the start. Pickup and return were amazingly convenient — they personally waited with the car at the agreed time, and flexibly arranged pick up the day of the return even on January 1, so everything was quick and effortless, especially compared to the usual delays with large rental companies.
The car was reliable and in great condition, and the whole process was smooth, flexible, and stress-free. We travel a lot, and we’ve honestly never had such a seamless car rental experience. Highly recommended!

We rented a car here for 7 days, we took a Seat Arona for two girls - a very comfortable compact car for the roads of Madeira. I want to note the quality of cooperation with Girassol, we were advised by very pleasant managers, they were constantly in touch with us and communication was very pleasant. I would also like to add that it is imperative to take out full car insurance, because situations can be unpredictable, for example, we drove the car as carefully and carefully as possible, but on the last day in the parking lot we did slightly touch the back door of the car and the insurance covered this inconvenience.

Such a great experience we had renting with Girassol. 🚗
We've arrived in Madeira without prior booking looking to book a car for 2 days. I wouldn't recommend doing like us if you are on a budget... but after doing a bit of research on Saturday morning, we went to their office in Caniço where we were welcomed by Alberto. Despite the fact that this was a walk in appointment they still gave us the option to book 2 cars for the 2 days, which worked great for us.
Alberto went through all the rental details very patiently, giving us some tips about driving in Madeira then next day at 8am we swapped the Seat Ibiza with a Smart. I would like to stress the fact that both cars were in excellent condition, no issues at all.
I would definitely recommend getting the full cover for a hassle free experience, you might be extremely cautious but you never know about the other drivers in traffic, so better don't worry about anything than enjoying your time exploring Madeira.
We can't wait to be back and rest assured we will be renting from you in the future as well!

Everything was perfect. The car was in perfect condition when it was given to me, clean inside and outside, not any mechanical problem, good tires, good driving instructions from Alberto Oliveira, and he was very polite and kind. We were in Madeira in September 2025 and hadn't booked a car in advance.
Fortunately, we were able to get two cars on the spot from Girassol. First a Smart and then a Seat Ibiza, both with automatic transmission. The cars were in excellent condition, very clean and well maintained, and we had no problems with them whatsoever. The staff were also very friendly and helpful! We would definitely use them again...highly recommended for this local car rental company.

Very satisfied – would definitely go back!

The staff there were extremely friendly and helpful.
We received a Seat Ibiza in perfect condition – clean, with a full tank, and ready to go. This allowed us to enjoy our time in Madeira in complete relaxation.

Both the pickup and return were completely hassle-free. 👍🏻

Overall, I was very satisfied.
If you'd like to know more, read on.

Our initial situation:
We were already at the Hotel RIU, not far from Girassol's main office in Canico. There was a Hertz QR code display at the hotel. Unfortunately, everything was fully booked. I didn't want to go back to the airport, so I searched the surrounding area and found Girassol.

Let's start with the online booking: Unfortunately, the vehicles were fully booked. Finding a suitable time slot with a free vehicle at all was a bit time-consuming. You have to enter the desired rental period exactly, only to find that—as in our case—none of the vehicles are available. This requires some patience and several attempts. It would be better to be able to see the available time slots. This would make it easier to find a free slot.

Collecting the vehicle:
We rented a Seat Ibiza from Girassol. The vehicle was a 2025 model and in good condition. Freshly vacuumed and washed. We went through any imperfections that were invisible at first glance with Girassol, or rather, they were pointed out to us.
To best avoid any problems (something like that certainly spoils the holiday mood and wastes unnecessary time), we opted for the additional insurance. There's no deposit and no deductible in the event of damage.

The return:
Although we were very careful, the vehicle was, of course, not as clean upon return as it had been upon collection. There was some dust from the Pico do Arieiro and a few light spots, possibly from one of the trees on the side of the road under which I had once parked. They resemble resin. I was worried that this might cause problems upon return. We didn't cause any scratches, etc.
I then returned the car with a full tank as agreed. A quick check by Girassol - everything was OK.

My conclusion:
I was very satisfied and would rent a vehicle from Girassol again at any time. Perhaps the online booking process has improved somewhat by then.

Excellent Car Rental Experience!
Fast and seamless service from start to finish. Vehicle collection was quick, staff were efficient and friendly, and return was just as easy. Everything ran smoothly — exactly what you want when renting a car. Highly recommended!
