New Mandatory Regional Usage Fee in Madeira

As of 1 June 2026, a new mandatory Regional Usage Fee will apply to all car rentals in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

What is the Regional Usage Fee?

In accordance with Regional Legislative Decree No. 7/2025/M, every customer will be charged €2 per vehicle per full rental day, up to a maximum of 10 days (i.e. maximum €20 per rental agreement).

Important information:

  • This fee is mandatory by law and applies to all rentals.
  • The fee is collected by Girassol.Rent and transferred to the regional authorities.
  • VAT is not applicable to this fee.
  • The fee will be shown separately on your booking confirmation and rental agreement.

This measure was introduced by the Regional Government of Madeira and applies to all rent-a-car companies operating on the island.

We would like to thank you for your understanding. This fee is outside of our control and is a legal requirement for all customers renting a car in Madeira.

If you have any questions regarding this new fee, please feel free to contact us at book@girassol.rent or by phone at +351 961 778 886  (WhatsApp & Telegram).
